Oil boilers
How often should an oil boiler be serviced?
Total Energy Solutions · updated July 2026 · 3 min read
The simple answer is once a year. An annual service keeps an oil boiler safe, efficient and reliable, and helps avoid the winter lockouts we get called to across East Lothian and the Borders.
Why yearly matters
Oil boilers burn a physical fuel that leaves deposits, so they need regular cleaning to run cleanly and efficiently. An annual service also catches wear before it becomes a breakdown.
What an OFTEC service includes
We clean and inspect the burner, nozzle and heat exchanger, check the fuel supply and combustion, and inspect the tank. You get a documented service report each time.
Booking it in
Late summer or early autumn is ideal, before the heating season starts. We send a yearly reminder so it never slips.
